DESIGN TRENDS 2023

Style and Furniture Trends are taking a much needed detour from what we have seen in the past few years…and for designers and stylists, this is the most exciting thing since RH developed the idea of eating, drinking and shopping all under one roof. Out with the well known straight lines, black and white color scheme…(yes the modern farm house has been done…again…and again…oh and again), the white shaker cabinets and white countertops, the “bohemian look” (not the Rhapsody… we love you Queen!) can go back to the 70s, textures on basically everything possible and oh hello…. “matchy matchy” is now so de la classe.

While trends are constantly changing (typically every 10 years), we now look forward to the new wave of a bold characteristic style that is sweeping through the markets and will eventually land at the doorsteps to our homes.

Now lets be real; design trends are just that and there is always going to be an expiration date on them. When selling your home, we like to incorporate these current trends while still utilizing what we call the “classic style” that will live on long past the tik tock DIY on how to paint your furniture green. But, The Classics are for another day, we are here to talk about how to make your home feel like you just walked into an episode of HGTV and we hope you enjoy riding the current 2023 Trends wave as long as you can.

Warm and Wood Tones:

Yes…out with the gray and in with the oak! In a world of neutrals past, we are leaning into the psychological effects of warming up our tones. We are seeing more warmer colors and natural wood tones and by the way, we are loving it! This can be used anywhere from flooring to kitchen cabinets, closets or vanities. We love seeing how these contrasting warm colors create an intimate and livable environment that people are longing for.

Color!:

“White Washing” a house for sale is officially a thing of the past. Buyers want a luxury and custom feel to a home that is easily achieved through color. Shocking…we know! While we don’t suggest going crazy and painting the house yellow, we do suggest dipping our toes into the color wheel through dark greens, blues, auburn, burnt orange and maybe adding a fun bright pop of color on the front door or accent wall.

Wallpaper & Accent Walls:

Wait…am I having a flashback to the early 2000s… not really but kind of… yes accent walls are back but not like what we think of when Carrie and Mr. Big were the best couple on national TV. Today, accent walls can be as simple as paint, added texture with wallpaper or super intricate with a wood decal design. Either way, these walls look killer and add what we like to call the modern day “Statement Wall”.

Mixed Metals:

All black hardware, no thank you, all gold umm maybe last year… This year is all about creating a cohesive environment with different metals from lighting, to hardware, to door handles, to faucets. We love seeing how different metals matched together can add a level of design element that goes far beyond our normal matchy matchy ideology.

Bold Countertops:

Thank you Athena Calderone for showcasing your gorgeous kitchen and basically paving the way for this year's current trend of bold countertops. For 2023, we want to see thick veining, dark and gold countertops, stone, and texture…texture…texture!

Statement Lighting:

Well, I am not sure if this is a new trend or if it is finally being recognized for its importance, but statement and what we call unique lighting is one of the most important parts when designing or selling your home. While I love a client who has a budget of $10,000 for light fixtures, we also recognize this is not the case for most and there are so many budget friendly but still stunner light fixtures that can elevate a design from feeling like a quick flip to a luxurious stand alone property.
